- Start with an ice breaker like, “What is your experience with gardening or growing plants?”
- Have someone pray as you begin
- Read Romans 8:1
- Paul says “NOW” there is no condemnation. Why does he say NOW? Summarize in your own words what has he said to this point that he would be able to say “NOW there is no condemnation”?
- Read Romans 8:1-4
- How would you use these verses to answer someone who says they “aren’t good enough for God”?
- How are these verses related to what Paul says in Romans 3:24 and Romans 5:1?
- Read Romans 8:5-11
- Make a list comparing what Paul says about living according to sinful nature and living according to the Spirit.
- In verse 7 Paul says our sinful nature NEVER WILL obey God’s law. How does this reality get described in what Paul says in Romans 7 about “trying to do what’s right, but can’t do it”? Is it possible that our sinful nature will lead us to TRY to do “what is right?” What is the result of those efforts?
- What is the source of life for us according to verses 10-11?
- Why doesn’t Jesus give us more patience, more love, more peace, etc?
- What does He give us instead? ((Himself! (v. 10-11)!))
- Why is “being IN CHRIST” not enough to live the Christian life? (Because to make it OUR OWN in daily experience we must WALK in the Spirit)
- Close in prayer, thanking the Lord that we are IN CHRIST, and submitting to the Lord to WALK IN HIM.
