- Have someone pray as you begin
- Read Romans 11:1
- How might Paul’s teaching in Romans 10:21 lead someone to ask the question Paul is asking here in 11:1?
- Read Romans 11:2-6
- What is the basis for Paul, and the others who are a “remnant” of Israel, being chosen? (v. 5 – grace, v. 6 – kindness)
- Read Romans 11:7-10
- How would you describe in your own words that it is possible to try so hard to please God that people actually by doing so reject his love for them? Have you ever experienced this?
- Read Romans 11:11-24
- In what ways do you think the Jews would be made jealous by God’s grace to Gentiles?
- Up until this point, Paul has been addressing the Jewish arrogance of being “superior to the Gentiles.” But in these verses, how does Paul’s illustrations of dough and an olive tree deal with the other side of the coin? (v. 13-24)
- Why would pride be a danger to either the Jews or Gentiles?
- Read Romans 11:25-36
- How would you state God’s purpose (described in these verses) in your own words?
- What is God’s ultimate hope for Israel? (v. 26-27)
- What is God’s ultimate hope for Gentiles? (v. 32)
- How have you seen arrogance divide people?
- What should our response be to God’s undeserved grace to us? What are some practical ways we can cultivate that response in our hearts?
