Icebreaker Question: : If you had a time machine that would work only once, there and back, what point in the future or in history would you visit?
- Open in a word of prayer.
- Read Matthew 21:1-11 What verses draw your attention the most? Why?
- Read Jesus’ instructions in verses 2-3. How would you have felt if he gave those instructions to you? Why do you think the disciples obeyed Him?
- It’s important to note that Jesus would be entering Jerusalem during Passover season. Discuss what Passover is. What did it represent? How does Passover parallel with Jesus?
- Read Matthew 21:8-11 again. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, the crowd treated him like a king. What were they expecting of him?
- As the crowd enters the city, people are asking, “Who is this?” The whole city is in an uproar. Jesus didn’t meet the expectations of many of these people. Have you ever known someone who was disappointed when God didn’t meet their expectations?
- What are some unrealistic expectations we sometimes have of God? How can we keep our expectations of God rooted in truth?
- What kind of king is Jesus to you today? How can you honor Him as your King?
