For your discussion/study time:
• To start out, everyone share a story of a time you were afraid… or something scary that happened.
• Someone read Daniel Chapter 5 out loud.
Then discuss these questions, or journal your responses.
• What scared the King? (look in verses 5-6)
• Why do you think that would be scary?
• What happened to King Belshazzar when he was afraid (verse 6)?
• What kind of gods did the king have (v. 4)? Is that a good idea?
• Who did the king call for help (v. 7)? Did they help?
• Who does come to help (v. 12-13)?
• Daniel could read the words and tell the king what the words meant. Was it good news or bad news for the king? (v. 25-28)
• We learn from this story that our sin has consequences. And, as we have been pointing out in our studies in the book of Daniel, we also learn WHAT KIND OF GOD WE HAVE!!
• What does v. 23 tell us about the kind of God we have?
• Our God gives us breath… what would happen to you if he stopped giving it to us?
• Our God controls our destiny… do you think that’s true during a pandemic?
• Are you afraid of what is going to happen to you? It’s ok if you are. King David was afraid. In Psalm 56:3 he says to God, “When I am afraid I will trust in you.”
• Finish by reading through Psalm 139:1-18… share your favorite parts of this psalm, and why it is encouraging to you.
• Watch the worship song video, and let the Lord speak to your heart and bring you His peace…
The first video is appropriate to show your little kids.
The second video is appropriate for all of us.
I’ve personally been ministered to by these… may it bring encouragement to your heart.
Close your time by praying together, or if you’re alone, write down your prayer to the Lord.
We love you, church!
